About us

The Moving In Project was founded to support individuals and families transitioning into permanent housing, helping transform newly occupied spaces into comfortable, functional homes. Rooted in community support (Ventura County, businesses and houses of faith) and practical action, the project brings together donated household goods, dedicated volunteers, and thoughtful coordination to meet real needs.

The Moving In Project is under the umbrella of the non profit Lift Up Your Voice to End Homelessness through the Unitarian Universalist Church (UUCV).

Founder

Kathy Powell founded the Moving In Project after witnessing firsthand the needs of the unhoused community in her neighborhood. Recognizing an opportunity to connect gently used furniture with individuals moving into permanent housing, she built the project around dignity, care, and community involvement.

Senior volunteers

Our senior volunteers generously share their time, energy, and hands-on support to help collect, move, and set up donated household items. Their experience and commitment play a vital role in ensuring each home is thoughtfully furnished and ready for a new beginning.
